Why the name 88 Dragons?

Formally known as Chon-ji Martial Arts, we decided it was time to refresh our image.

Dragons have always been closely associated with the martial arts; both dragons and the number 8 are considered powerful and lucky in Eastern Asian culture.

Instructor Master Dennis Alvey's son Bram was born 8 pounds 8 ounces in 2000, the year of the golden dragon. Master Alvey himself was also born in a dragon year.

We wanted a name that easily recognisable, special to us, and we also wanted a name to inspire the imagination of children. The name 88 Dragons incorporates numbers and symbols that are important both to martial arts culture and to the school family.

• To promote the tenets of the martial arts: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
• To provide realistic and effective martial arts instruction for the purpose of self defence.
• To educate children towards personal safety and stranger awareness.
• To constantly improve ourselves as instructors to ensure the long term growth of the school.
• To promote a healthy diet and exercise as a way of life.
• To provide ethical financial transactions to develop client trust and respect.
• To ensure customer satisfaction with the intent of spreading our popularity as a leading school.
• To increase our student numbers, ensuring our programs benefit as many individuals as possible.
• To promote respect for others, one's self, the community and the World as a whole.
